About the Programme

The Child Development Program at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics is a 2-year associate degree program that high school graduates can enter based on their results from the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). Students can also be admitted through horizontal transfer. The conditions for horizontal transfer are regulated annually by the university administration through regulations/guidelines. Those who complete the Child Development Program are awarded the “Associate Degree Diploma from Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics.”
Students who graduate from this program with sufficient knowledge and skills meet the public and private sector's need for intermediate personnel in preschool education institutions, inclusive schools, and special education institutions.

The main aim of the Child Development Program is to train personnel who adopt the importance of child development and education, recognize the developmental characteristics of children, are knowledgeable about their habits and needs, and can take precautions against problems that children may encounter.
Additionally, the program aims to train technical personnel who can recognize children in need of special education, organize suitable educational environments for these children, are aware of maternal health, can prepare educational toys suitable for children's developmental levels and evolving technology, and can prepare daily menus and foods in accordance with the principles of the institution they work in.

Programme Mission

To train high-quality intermediate professionals needed by the public and private sectors (Ministry of National Education, nurseries, daycare centers, children's clinics) equipped with theoretical knowledge required by the age and practical competencies gained in authentic environments; to center the developmental characteristics, rights of children, and equality of opportunity in education; to integrate educational robotics, programmable devices, and evolving digital technologies into early childhood education processes with innovative materials.

To be a respected and model associate degree program that provides education in accordance with international professional standards in the field of early childhood education and child development; leading at the national level by reflecting digital transformation and modern educational approaches in its curriculum and application laboratories; with strong public-private sector collaborations, a dynamic graduate tracking system, and high employability.

Programme Educational Objectives

PEA1: Graduates plan and implement educational activities centered on the developmental characteristics of children and children's rights in preschool education, special education, and health institutions.

PEA2: Graduates recognize developmental risks in early childhood and carry out the child's developmental monitoring in collaboration with relevant specialists.

PEA3: Graduates advocate for equality of opportunity; act in accordance with ethical, social, and legal rules, and develop themselves with a lifelong learning awareness.

PEA4: Graduates design and use digital technologies and innovative materials such as educational robotics in a manner suitable for children's developmental levels.

Programme Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the programme achieve the following programme outcomes (PO):

  1. Recognizes children’s developmental characteristics and explains children’s rights.
  2. Supports the processes of identifying educational activities appropriate to children’s developmental stages, as well as planning and implementing relevant materials.
  3. Explains the importance of early identification of developmental risks in children.
  4. Monitors children’s development under the supervision of relevant specialists.
  5. Supports an educational approach that promotes equality of opportunity.
  6. Effectively uses basic, current, and practice-oriented knowledge related to the profession; evaluates professional problems encountered in the field through an analytical and critical approach and proposes solutions.
  7. Expresses ideas and evidence-based solution proposals clearly through written and oral communication; assumes responsibility as a team member in transdisciplinary work aimed at solving unforeseen and complex problems.
  8. Has knowledge of occupational health and safety and quality processes in child development practices; effectively uses information technologies required by the field, including software, digital programs, and educational robotics.
  9. Uses a foreign language to follow international knowledge in the field of child development and communicate with colleagues; engages in career planning and adopts a lifelong learning approach.
  10. Upholds social, scientific, cultural, and professional ethical values in the processes of collecting, evaluating, and sharing data related to the field.
  11. Reflects digitalization, environmental awareness, and green transformation in professional practices; possesses awareness of child and community well-being within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Internship

In the Child Development Program, students must complete a 20 working days mandatory internship as a graduation requirement. The internship is carried out in public or private sector institutions suitable for the program's professional field, in accordance with the internship calendar determined by the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Vocational Schools Internship Directive and the Vocational School Board.

Employment Opportunities for Graduates

Students who graduate from our program can work as administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants in private nurseries and kindergartens, as administrators, teachers, and teacher assistants in special education and rehabilitation centers, as master teachers in kindergartens and primary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, as parent educators in private research and consultancy companies, as designers in the children's publications and toys sectors, and as childcare personnel for the children of working parents.

Vertical Transfer Options

Graduates of the Child Development Program have the right to continue to a bachelor's program related to their field of study if they succeed in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM.

Accreditation

The Child Development Program at Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics has officially applied for the accreditation process of the Vocational Education Evaluation and Accreditation Association (MEDEK) to exceed national standards in education quality and document the professional competencies of its graduates. Our program is currently undergoing an evaluation process within the framework of the quality criteria set by MEDEK.

Our program, which operates with a vision of continuous improvement in educational activities, structures its student-centered educational understanding, depth of academic staff, and application unity processes in accordance with accreditation standards.

As the Child Development Program, our main goals in this process are:

To train equipped professionals with scientific and ethical values that will support the healthy development of children,

To regularly update the educational curriculum in line with the changing needs of the sector and society and stakeholder opinions,

To ensure sustainable success in education by operating measurement, evaluation, and quality assurance mechanisms with the principle of continuous improvement.

Within the program, student satisfaction surveys, advisory meetings, internal and external stakeholder opinions, and graduate feedback are regularly evaluated. Improvement activities are planned, implemented, and necessary updates are made by monitoring the results based on the data obtained.
