About the Programme

The Accounting and Tax Applications Program is a two-year associate degree program aimed at training qualified intermediate staff needed by businesses in the fields of accounting and finance. The main objective of the program is to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to effectively carry out the processes of classifying, recording, analyzing, reporting, and interpreting transactions that occur in businesses and can be expressed in monetary terms. In line with this goal, the program aims to respond to the needs of the business world by training professionals who are committed to professional ethical values, can follow current legislation in their field, think analytically, use technology effectively, and have a lifelong learning awareness.
During the education period of the program, students acquire theoretical knowledge in areas such as accounting, taxation, law, economics, and basic business administration, while also gaining practical competencies to apply this knowledge. The program offers courses in general accounting, cost accounting, corporate accounting, and field-specific accounting based on the Uniform Accounting System. Additionally, alongside accounting courses, courses in tax law, commercial law, labor and social security law, as well as courses in information technologies and software packages are provided to enhance students' skills in performing accounting transactions in digital environments.
Through the mandatory internship application covering 20 working days included in the program, students have the opportunity to experience the knowledge they acquire during their education in a real work environment. As a result, graduates are equipped to work in freelance accounting and certified public accounting offices, in the accounting and finance departments of businesses, and in the relevant departments of public institutions.
Students who successfully complete the program graduate with the title of “Accounting Professional.” Graduates can also apply for the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM and continue their academic education by transitioning to relevant undergraduate programs. Graduates who complete undergraduate programs can obtain the title of Certified Public Accountant if they meet the necessary conditions specified in the Law No. 3568 on Certified Public Accountancy and Sworn-in Public Accountancy, allowing them to practice their profession independently.
The quality of the program's education is continuously evaluated based on student feedback, graduate tracking studies, and opinions from industry representatives. In light of the data obtained, course contents, teaching methods, and program outcomes are updated to ensure continuous improvement.

The mission of the Accounting and Tax Applications Program is to train qualified intermediate staff who can carry out accounting and tax processes in accordance with the principles of transparency and accountability, who are committed to professional ethical values, can follow current legislation, effectively use information technologies, think analytically, and possess problem-solving skills, meeting the needs of the public and private sectors in the fields of accounting, finance, and taxation. In this regard, the program aims to equip students with professional knowledge and skills, integrating theoretical knowledge with practice to prepare them as ready individuals for the business world.

Programme Educational Objectives

PEA1: Graduates organize commercial documents in the accounting units of public and private sector enterprises and maintain accounting records in accordance with the legislation.

PEA2: Graduates prepare, analyze financial statements and reports, and provide decision support to business management.

PEA3: Graduates apply tax legislation; prepare declarations and notifications using accounting software and digital tools.

PEA4: Graduates act in accordance with professional law and ethical principles, take responsibility within the team, and continue their professional development.

Programme Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the programme achieve the following programme outcomes (PO):

  1. Acquires a strong theoretical background in the fields of accounting, law, economics, basic business, and management.
  2. Knows the legal framework and operations required by the field of business and accounting.
  3. Prepares the documents used in commercial life that constitute the evidence of accounting records in accordance with the legislation.
  4. Records the transactions that are the subject of accounting from business activities.
  5. Prepares financial statements and reports needed in the accounting process.
  6. Analyzes financial statements and reports prepared during the accounting process.
  7. Audits the compliance of the accounting process with the legislation.
  8. Determines forward-looking policies for the economic and financial sustainability of enterprises.
  9. Uses basic and advanced software required by the field.
  10. Uses modern information technologies and artificial intelligence tools emerging in the field.
  11. Acts in accordance with business ethics within the framework of professional law, ethical values, and social responsibility principles.
  12. Solves problems in the work environment during accounting and tax processes with a sense of responsibility as an individual and a team member.
  13. Continuously updates professional competencies with an awareness of quality processes and sustainability through lifelong learning.
  14. Uses the native language effectively in oral and written communication processes, possessing an awareness of the historical development process and social values.
  15. Effectively uses professional terminology and foreign language knowledge at a level that supports professional development in communication processes with the business environment.

Internship

In the Accounting and Tax Applications Program, students are required to complete a 20 working days mandatory internship as a graduation requirement. The internship is carried out in public or private sector organizations suitable for the program's professional field, in accordance with the Internship Directive of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Vocational Schools and the internship calendar determined by the Vocational School Board.

Employment Opportunities for Graduates

Students who successfully complete the Accounting and Tax Applications Program are entitled to receive an associate degree diploma as “Accounting Professional.” Graduates can find job opportunities in freelance accounting and certified public accounting offices, in the accounting and finance departments of businesses, and in the accounting-related services of public institutions and organizations. Graduates can also apply for the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM and continue their academic education by transitioning to relevant undergraduate programs. Graduates who complete undergraduate programs can obtain the title of Certified Public Accountant if they meet the necessary conditions specified in the Law No. 3568 on Certified Public Accountancy and Sworn-in Public Accountancy, allowing them to practice their profession independently.

Vertical Transfer Options

Graduates of the Accounting and Tax Applications Program have the right to continue to an undergraduate program related to their field of study if they demonstrate success in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by ÖSYM. The undergraduate programs available for vertical transfer are determined each year according to the updated DGS guide and Table-2 published by ÖSYM. In the 2025 DGS guide, the undergraduate programs that graduates of the Accounting and Tax Applications associate degree can choose from are as follows;

Activity reports related to the program, unit self-assessment reports, student and stakeholder survey results, and performance indicators are published on the quality pages of our Vocational School.

Within the program, student satisfaction surveys, advisory meetings, opinions from internal and external stakeholders, and graduate feedback are regularly evaluated. Improvement activities are planned, implemented, and necessary updates are made by monitoring the results based on the data obtained.
