FIRST SECTION

Purpose, Scope, Legal Basis, Definitions

Purpose and Scope

Article 1 – (1) The purpose of these Principles and Procedures is to determine the conditions and methods for opening a summer school at our University, how to register for the summer school, how the courses will be conducted, how the exams will be held, the tuition fees to be collected from students, the exam fees to be paid to the teaching staff who actually teach, and other issues to be applied in the mentioned programs.
Legal Basis
Article 2 – (1) It has been prepared based on the Summer School Procedures and Principles of the Higher Education Council, Burdur Mehmet Akif University Education, Training and Examination Regulations, Veterinary Faculty Education, Training and Examination Regulations, and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Summer School Directive.
Definitions
Article 3 – (1) In the 2023 Summer School Procedures and Principles of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University;
ECTS: Refers to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System,
IBAN: Refers to the number of the deposit account opened in the name of the student,
ÖBS: Refers to the MAKÜ Student Information System,
Summer School: Refers to the education and training program opened in the summer period outside the fall and spring semesters in higher education institutions,
Higher Education Institution: Refers to the Rectorate of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.

SECOND SECTION

General Procedures and Principles to be Applied in the 2023 Summer School Programs to be Conducted within Our University

General Procedures and Principles

Article 4 – (1) The principles and procedures to be applied in the summer school to be conducted within our University are specified below.
(a) In the 2023 Summer School, the courses "Atatürk's Principles and History of Reforms I – II", "Turkish Language I - II", "Foreign Language (English) I – II" will be conducted through distance education, while all other courses will be conducted through face-to-face education.
(b) The midterm and final exams of the courses "Atatürk's Principles and History of Reforms I–II", "Turkish Language I-II", "Foreign Language (English) I–II" to be conducted through distance education, and the midterm and final exams of the courses to be conducted through face-to-face education will be held face-to-face.
(c) For students who will take the courses "Atatürk's Principles and History of Reforms I – II", "Turkish Language I - II", "Foreign Language (English) I – II" to be conducted through distance education in the 2023 Summer School at our University;
(a) The courses to be given through distance education will be conducted live (synchronous) and will also be recorded, allowing students to watch them later (asynchronous).
(b) The lecture notes and live lecture recordings of the theoretical courses deemed appropriate to be opened will be uploaded to the distance education system every week.
(c) The lecture notes and live lecture recordings of the relevant courses will be recorded in the distance education system every week, and this will be the basis for the payment of the course fee to the teaching staff. Payments will be made by the relevant academic units.
(d) Students will be deemed to have fulfilled the attendance requirement if they watch at least 70% of the total course duration live and/or from the recording.
(e) The attendance and absenteeism of students will be reported by the Distance Education Application and Research Center at the end of the summer school. Students are required to attend the courses they take in the summer school even if they have fulfilled the attendance requirement for the courses they have taken before. Students who do not meet the attendance requirement in the summer school cannot take the final exam of the relevant course.
(3) The calculation of the success grade is done according to the provisions of our University's regulations. The absolute evaluation system is applied in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, while the relative evaluation system is applied in all other associate and undergraduate programs.
(4) Students are required to attend the courses they take in the summer school even if they have fulfilled the attendance requirement for the courses they have taken before.
(5) For students to meet the attendance requirement of the course, it is essential to attend 70% of the theoretical part and 80% of the practical part of the course.
(6) At least one midterm exam and one final exam are held for the courses opened in the summer school.
(7) Students who do not attend the midterm exam cannot take the final exam of the relevant course in the summer school.
(8) No make-up and resit exams are held in the summer school.


THIRD SECTION

Procedures and Principles for Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Students

Article 5 – (1) All courses included in the teaching plans for the 2021-2023 academic year will be opened in the Student Information System (ÖBS) for summer school applications.
(2) Courses included in associate and undergraduate education programs will not be opened in the summer school if they have not been opened in the semester to which they belong.
(3) Students can take the courses they did not take or could not take, the courses they failed, the courses to be taken in upper semesters, and the courses they want to improve their grades in the summer school, provided that they comply with our regulations.
(4) MAKÜ students who will take summer school courses from the unit they are registered in can directly select courses through the Student Information System.
(5) MAKÜ students who want to take a course that is not opened in their registered unit but is opened in another unit within the university can apply with the application form at https://prg.mehmetakif.edu.tr/YazOkuluBasvuruFormu/?YOBF=MAKU and need the decision of the administrative board of the unit they are registered in after their application.
(6) MAKÜ students can take courses from other higher education institutions without losing their rights, provided that the summer school courses are not opened in our university's faculties/schools/conservatories/vocational schools and the content, credit, and course hours are appropriate, by applying with the application form at https://prg.mehmetakif.edu.tr/YazOkuluBasvuruFormu/?YOBF=DIGER and need the decision of the administrative board of the unit they are registered in after their application.
(7) Students can obtain the course content outputs from the "ECTS Information Package" under the ECTS link on our University's main web page (https://obs.mehmetakif.edu.tr/oibs/bologna/).
(8) Students who have completed their course selection must finalize their course registration through the Student Information System after paying the summer school fee through Vakıfbank. The approval of the courses that are confirmed to be opened will be done by the unit's student affairs.
(9) MAKÜ students;
(a) Can take a maximum of 5 courses with a total of up to 20 ECTS credits from the courses opened in the summer school within our university.
(b) Can take courses from other universities' summer schools, provided that the summer school courses are not opened in our university's faculties/schools/vocational schools and the content, credit, and course hours are appropriate, with the approval of the administrative board of the unit they are registered in, up to a total of 15 ECTS credits.
(c) Students who take courses from both our university's summer school and other universities' summer schools in the same year can take a maximum of 5 courses with a total of up to 20 ECTS credits.
(d) Students who have taken and passed all the courses they are required to take in the fall and spring semesters, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.00, can take a maximum of 15 ECTS credits from upper classes in the summer school.
(e) Students who choose only one course are not subject to the ECTS limitation.
(10) Students who do not meet the attendance requirement of a course in the semester or have never taken the course and fail the course in the summer school even if they attend, must retake the course in the semester to which it belongs. Therefore, students who fail the course in the summer school in such a situation are not given a single course exam right.
(11) The grades of the courses taken and passed (DD and above) in the summer school are included in the student's Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at the beginning of the following fall semester.
(12) The grades obtained from the courses taken in the summer school are processed as if they were taken in the semester to which they belong.
(13) If a student shows lower success or fails due to absenteeism in the summer school compared to the success in the semester to which the course belongs, the student's success status in the summer school is not taken into account, and it is treated as if the student has never taken the course in the summer school.
(14) Students whose registration has been canceled for any reason cannot register for the summer school.
(15) The time spent in the summer school is not counted as part of the normal education period.
(16) Courses can be taken from the double major program in the summer school.
(17) The determination of students who will not pay the tuition fee by entering the top 10% is made after the grades of the make-up exams are entered into the system on a program basis, so the success grades obtained at the end of the summer school do not change the top 10 ranking.
 
FOURTH SECTION

Procedures and Principles for Students Registered in Other Universities Who Will Take Courses from Our University’s Summer School

Article 6 – (1) Students registered in other universities can apply online at https://obs.mehmetakif.edu.tr/oibs/summer_app/ to receive a student number and password, and then log in at https://obs.mehmetakif.edu.tr/ to take courses from the summer school as guest students like MAKÜ students. The student numbers and passwords of the applicants will be sent to the email addresses they specified in their application (the information will be sent to your registered email address within 24 hours, and if you do not receive an email within this period, you can get information via email at yazokulu@mehmetakif.edu.tr).
(2) Students registered in other universities who will take courses from our university's summer school can register through MAKÜ ÖBS in accordance with the "Summer School Flow Chart" in the 2023 Summer School announcement at https://www.mehmetakif.edu.tr/duyurular during the course selection dates specified in the academic calendar.
(3) Students who have completed their course selection must finalize their course registration after paying the summer school fee. The approval of the courses that are confirmed to be opened will be done by the unit's student affairs.
(4) Approved content is not required from guest students who will take courses from our university's summer school. The responsibility lies with the student in case the course is not accepted at the university they are registered in. Therefore, it will be beneficial for guest students to get approval from their university before registering for the courses.
(5) Students whose university requires course content can obtain the course content outputs from the "ECTS Information Package" under the ECTS link on our University's main web page (https://obs.mehmetakif.edu.tr/oibs/bologna/).
(6) The evaluation of success and failure and the success grade in the summer school are done according to the provisions
